Introduction- People Interactive (India) Private Limited ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") operates Shaadi.com and its associated mobile applications, websites, and services (collectively, the "Platform" or "Services"), a matchmaking platform. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect from or about you, how and why we process it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights available to you under applicable data protection laws.
- By creating an account, browsing the Platform, or otherwise using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, please discontinue use of the Services. This Policy does not apply to third-party websites, applications, or services that may be linked from the Platform.
Information We Collect- We collect personal data in the following ways:
3.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account and profile information: information you provide as part of the sign up process and profile information such as name, gender, date of birth, marital status, mobile number, email address, physical address, city/country of residence, photographs and videos, height, physical attributes, diet and lifestyle preferences, education, profession, income range, family details, religion, community, caste/sub-caste, mother tongue, horoscope, astrological details, partner preferences, password or authentication credential.
- Verification information: in select cases, where applicable, government-issued identity documents (for example, Aadhaar, PAN, passport, or driving licence) submitted for identity or background verification, and information used to verify education or professional claims.
- Communications: messages, chat content, interest/expressions of interest sent to other members, customer support correspondence, and survey or feedback responses.
- Payment information: billing name, billing address, and payment instrument details processed through our payment gateway partners. We do not store full card numbers on our own systems.
3.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device and usage data: IP address, device identifiers, browser type, operating system, referring/exit pages, pages viewed, time spent, click-stream data, data regarding your phone and applications and app crash/diagnostic logs.
- Location data: approximate location derived from your IP address or, where you provide permission, precise geolocation from your device.
- Cookies and similar technologies: as described in Section 9 (Cookies and Similar Technologies).
3.3 Information From Other Sources
- Other members: information submitted about you by a relative or friend creating a profile on your behalf.
- Third-party sign-in: if you register using Google or another third-party account, we receive profile information you authorise that provider to share.
- Verification and background-check partners: where applicable, confirmation of identity and other related information where you have opted into such verification or we determine that the account requires additional verification.
3.4 Special Categories / Sensitive Personal Data
Because the Platform facilitates matchmaking, we may process certain categories of data that are voluntarily provided including:
- religion, caste, and community;
- photographs;
- government identity numbers used for verification purposes;
- health-related information you choose to disclose (for example, medical history or disability, where voluntarily shared in a profile or horoscope);
- financial information such as income range and payment details;
- precise geolocation, where enabled.
How We Use Your Information- We process this data only with your consent, for the specific purpose of matchmaking and profile display, verification, fraud prevention, or as otherwise permitted by law. You control the visibility of most profile fields through your account privacy settings, and you may decline to provide non-mandatory fields without affecting your ability to use core Services, subject to reduced matching functionality.
We use collected data for the following purposes:
- to create, maintain, and display your profile, and to recommend and rank potential matches;
- where applicable, to verify your identity and the authenticity of information you provide, and to detect and prevent fraud, fake profiles, and misuse of the Platform;
- to enable communication between members (for example, delivering messages and interest requests);
- to process payments and manage subscriptions, upgrades, and renewals;
- to provide customer support and respond to enquiries or complaints;
- to send service-related communications (for example, match alerts, account notices, and security alerts) and, where you have consented or as otherwise permitted by law, marketing communications;
- to personalise your experience, including through automated matching and ranking algorithms (see Section 10, Automated Decision-Making);
- to maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the Platform, including monitoring for prohibited content and enforcing our terms of use;
- where applicable, to facilitate interactions/connections between Platform users and to evaluate potential matches;
- to comply with applicable legal obligations; and
- to conduct analytics, research, and product development on an aggregated or de-identified basis.
4.1 Legal Bases for Processing
We rely on one or more of the following legal bases for each processing activity:
- Consent and performance of contract: for use of the platform and provision of Services;
- Legitimate interests: for fraud prevention, Platform security, service improvement, personalisation and marketing;
- Legal obligation: to comply with applicable law, court orders, or legal requests.
- You may withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
How We Share Your Information- We do not sell your personal data. We share personal data only as described below:
- Other members: your public profile fields (as configured in your privacy settings) are visible to other members and, where you opt in, to prospective matches identified through our partner network. Other information you choose to share is also made available to other users.
- Service providers and processors: cloud hosting, payment processing, SMS/email delivery, identity verification, customer support, fraud prevention and verification vendors, analytics, and advertising vendors, who process personal data on our behalf under contract.
- Legal and safety disclosures: to comply with a legal obligation, enforce our terms, protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our members, or the public, or to respond to lawful requests from public or government authorities, including for national security or law-enforcement purposes.
- With your consent: for any other purpose that you have specifically authorised.
Cross-Border Data Transfers- Personal data may be stored and processed in India and the United States, where our servers, affiliates, or service providers are located. All external parties who process or store personal data are subject to contractual safeguards.
Data Retention- We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide the Services, comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods shall also account for reasonable retention after deletion or account inactivity to allow reactivation and to comply with legal holds, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised. In some cases, such as fraud prevention, account deduping, compliance with legal obligations and other legitimate purposes, information may not be permanently deleted but may be placed in a separate secure database with limited access for only limited legal purposes. Where any legal obligations that we are subject to specify retention or erasure timelines applicable to certain classes of data fiduciaries (including erasure upon withdrawal of consent or after a specified period of inactivity, subject to prior notice to you), we will comply with those requirements.
Data Security- We implement technical and organisational measures, measures aligned with ISO 27001, designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, network security monitoring, and employee confidentiality obligations. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to affect you, we will notify you and any relevant supervisory authority as required by applicable law.
Cookies and Similar Technologies- We use cookies, SDKs, pixels, and similar technologies to operate the Platform, remember your preferences, measure performance, and deliver personalised services and content.
Automated Decision-Making and Profiling- We use automated processes, including algorithmic matching and ranking, to suggest potential matches and to detect fraudulent or fake profiles. These processes assist rather than replace human judgment in most cases; however, to the extent any automated decision produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you (for example, automated account suspension for suspected fraud), you may contact us using the details in Section 14.
Children's Privacy- The Services are not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from, individuals under the Minimum Age. If you believe a child has created an account or provided us with personal data, please contact our Grievance Officer using the details in Section 14 so we can investigate and take appropriate action, including deletion.
Your Privacy Rights- Subject to applicable conditions and exemptions, applicable laws and this privacy policy, you may reach out to us at any time to exercise any rights in respect of your data that we are legally bound to provide. Where there is no legal obligation, we shall still make reasonable efforts to comply with your request.

Grievance Officer, Data Protection Officer, and Regional Contacts Third-Party Links and Integrations- The Platform may contain links to third-party websites, plug-ins, or services (for example, payment gateways, social media login providers, verification service providers or fraud prevention partners) that are not operated by us. This Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal data to them.
Changes to This Policy- We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors.
